4 Thing you need to know about Belgrade

Belgrade is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with its unique charm and atmosphere. And people especially love it for the vibrant nightlife it offers. So If you’ve already booked your trip to Belgrade, here are 4 things you must know about the city:

Belgrade is not a flat city

Even though there are some fairly flat parts of the city, the most interesting places are located in the city center. Unfortunately, there is more like going up and down the hill all the time situation, which can be tiring sometimes.

Public transport

Starting from January 2025, there is no fixed schedule for public transportation; instead, a dynamic timetable is used. This means buses run as needed, based on the authorities’ assessment. Although it sounds a bit unsettling, the transportation is usually regular, but there’s no schedule you can plan your day around. The bus connection between different parts of the city is good but it is often crowded with people and traffic jams. Now, you might say, „I prefer walking anyway,“ and while we agree that it’s the best way to soak in the city’s atmosphere, you’ll quickly realize that due to the hilly terrain, getting from one point to another isn’t always so easy. To see and explore everything, we suggest staying somewhere near the city center, where it’s easiest to connect to all parts of the city and save time. Plus, staying in the old town is one of the best experiences in any city, isn’t it?

The good news are that the public transport in Belgrade is free of charge since January 2025.

Work time of stores, cafes and clubs in Belgrade

Most cafes and restaurants close around midnight/1 am. This

could vary from place to place but it’s the most common closing time.

Almost all shops are working until 10 pm. If you’re staying in the city center, some bigger shops might work until 1 am or even 24 hours. This is great for those who love to have a snack during night or for hungry souls coming from a night out.

There are clubs that stay open until 4 or 5 in the morning, but because of noise regulations most of these clubs („splavovi“) are located along the river or in quiet streets that aren’t filled with apartment buildings. The rest of the bars and clubs closes at 1 am.
